John Krasinski is set to return as the iconic CIA analyst in Jack Ryan: Ghost War, the highly anticipated feature film continuation of the popular Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan franchise. After the success of the Prime Video series across four seasons, the Ryanverse is now making the leap from streaming series to a full-scale cinematic action thriller with bigger stakes, larger action set pieces, and a fresh global conspiracy at its centre.
Ahead of the film’s release, Krasinski opened up about revisiting the beloved character and revealed that this chapter has been his most enjoyable experience with the role so far. “It feels amazing. Honestly, I think this is the most fun I've ever had playing the role. It's been a totally different experience. The show was a different kind of storytelling; it was long-form and took longer to shoot. With the movie, we feel like people know the characters, and we were able to have more fun with the traditional three-act structure,” the actor shared.
Krasinski also reflected on why the character of Jack Ryan continues to resonate with him years after he first stepped into the role. “I always loved the idea that a Jack Ryan existed, that there was somebody who was human and decent and real out there on the front lines, being a true hero rather than someone with a cape or with superpowers. It's inspiring,” he added.
In Jack Ryan: Ghost War, Jack Ryan is pulled back into the dangerous world of espionage after an international covert mission uncovers a deadly global conspiracy. As threats escalate and time begins to run out, Ryan reunites with trusted CIA operative Mike November, played by Michael Kelly, and former CIA boss James Greer, portrayed by Wendell Pierce. The trio is joined by MI6 officer Emma Marlowe, played by Sienna Miller, as they navigate betrayal, hidden agendas, and an enemy that appears to be constantly one step ahead.
Directed by Andrew Bernstein, the film is based on a story developed by Noah Oppenheim and John Krasinski. The action-thriller promises a blend of political tension, intelligence warfare, and explosive action sequences, making it the franchise’s most ambitious chapter yet.
Backed by Prime Video, Jack Ryan: Ghost War is scheduled to premiere on May 20 across more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
