Jackie Chan officially launches production of New Police Story 2 with Nicholas Tse

Action legend Jackie Chan is officially headed to produce and star in the sequel to the 2004 reboot of the Police Story franchise, New Police Story 2 with Nicholas Tse attached as director. As Collider shares, on Tuesday, the Filmart market featured a welcome and rare appearance by martial arts actor and legend, Jackie Chan, as he announced Emperor Motion Pictures' (EMP) New Police Story 2.

Chan who will both star in and produce the film was accompanied by Hong Kong actor, martial artist, singer, songwriter, popstar and heartthrob, Nicolas Tse. The film also marks the directorial debut of Tse, the genre-jumping popstar-turned-filmmaker.

The original Police Story films are largely credited with jumpstarting Chan's career, making him a movie star worldwide. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chan stated that this played a big role in his decision to come back to the franchise.

"I put a lot and a lot of effort in this movie ['Police Story'] back then, and it was a series loved by global fans. But most importantly, Nicolas Tse is the director this time, this attracted me to the project."

As Collider notes, New Police Story has little to do with the original franchise, focusing more on the action and less on the comedic elements of the original series. The new film is expected to be hit theaters in 2024.
