The highly anticipated Minecraft Movie is set to hit theatres on April 4, 2025, also in IMAX 3D, bringing the beloved blocky universe of Mojang’s best-selling video game to life. Directed by Jared Hess, the live-action adaptation stars Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge.

For the first time, audiences will witness the pixelated world of Minecraft in an action-packed, visually stunning cinematic adventure. The story follows four misfits—Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Hansen), Natalie (Myers), and Dawn (Brooks)—who are unexpectedly transported into the Overworld. As they navigate the cubic landscape, they must master the art of crafting and survival while facing formidable enemies like Piglins and Zombies. Their only hope lies in teaming up with an unexpected ally—an expert crafter named Steve, played by Jack Black.

Jack Black steps into the role of Steve, a misunderstood man who stumbles into the world of Minecraft, only to find himself trapped in the treacherous Nether. Speaking about the thrilling storyline, Black explains, "It's life or death, because they're going up against the most fearsome monster you've ever heard of. Malgosha is a vicious piggy queen who'll rip you apart and zap you into pork chops. But with a little luck, a little friendship, a little craftiness, and a little mining, our intrepid heroes can save the day. Will they save the day? Spoiler alert, I'm not telling. And that is the perfect synopsis of Minecraft, the movie.”

A role unlike any other for Jack Black

Known for his energetic performances, Black was drawn to the character of Steve, who offers a mix of comedy, action, and emotional depth. Describing his take on the character, he says, "He has tons of hilarious opportunities, and it’s a character I haven't really played before. Steve's kind of a badass fierce warrior, and I don't usually get to play that character. I get some fight scenes and some character growth because he's kind of a character that doesn't fit into society, a little bit of a loner. People don't get him, and they don't appreciate his gifts and talents. And so he goes into this Minecraft world where he can flourish and his creativity can go wild. Over the course of the movie, with these new characters and these friendships, he starts to grow. He learns that he can live in the real world, and he can find a place for himself in the world of humans.”

Produced by Vertigo Entertainment, On The Roam, and Mojang Studios, A Minecraft Movie promises to bring the spirit of the beloved game to life in a way that resonates with both longtime fans and newcomers.
