South Asian music fans have all the reasons to celebrate at this year’s Coachella. The 2023 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival became a huge platform for South Asian artists to take over the stage and enthral music-goers. Following Diljit Dosanjh’s exhilarating performance on Saturday night, Pakistani singer Ali Sethi took the Coachella stage on Sunday at Indio, California. Interestingly, for a special set, he was joined by Indian-American rapper Raja Kumari.
Ali Sethi performed several of his hits including a medley of ‘Chan Kithan’, and ‘Ishq’. During the performance of ‘Pasoori’, he invited Raja Kumari on stage who enthralled the crowd with their performance. Born Svetha Rao in Claremont, California to Indian parents who migrated to the US, Raja Kumari is a disruptive force in hip-hop. Sethi was met with loud cheers as the audience sang along to his songs.

Ali Sethi had a tremendous 2022 following the hit Coke Studio Pakistan track ‘Pasoori’ with Shae Gill which led them to unprecedented stardom. The song was the most searched song of 2022 on Google. He has several hits under his belt including ‘Ranjish Hi Sahi’, ‘Chan Kithan’, ‘Ishq’, ‘Chandni Raat’ among others.

As a musician, Ali Sethi is known for his classical and folk music. He has released several albums, including The Bitter Sweet and Jhoom. He has also collaborated with various artists and performed at music festivals around the world.
This year, Indian singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh became the first Punjabi artist ever to perform at Coachella. He took the stage in the traditional outfit as he enthralled the California audience on several hit tracks including ‘Patiala Peg’, ‘Lemonade’ among others. Many South Asian acts were a part of the show this year including Jai Wolf, and Jai Paul.
