Universal Pictures (distributed by Warner Bros. Discovery) is set to bring the latest instalment of Bridget Jones in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, marking its big release in the theatres on February 14, 2025, Valentine’s Day. Based on Helen Fielding’s globally acclaimed bestseller, the film is directed by Michael Morris and sees the return of the stellar cast with Renée Zellweger as Bridget, Colin Firth as the late Mark Darcy, and Hugh Grant as the ever-charming Daniel Cleaver. Joining the cast is Leo Woodall as Roxster, a handsome park ranger and an exciting new presence in Bridget’s world. Get ready for another unforgettable chapter filled with humor, heartbreak, and the signature charm that has made the Bridget Jones series a worldwide phenomenon.
The film follows Bridget’s transformative journey, shaped by unexpected challenges and profound loss. Four years after her husband’s tragic death during a humanitarian mission in Sudan, she navigates the complexities of single motherhood, raising her two young children, Billy and Mabel, while juggling work, home life, and the pressures of keeping up with the seemingly perfect school mothers.
Amidst the chaos, Bridget leans on her loyal friends and finds an unexpected source of support in the reappearance of Daniel Cleaver. What once began as a tumultuous romance has now evolved into an unconventional yet genuine friendship. Though their history is filled with mischief and heartbreak, an undeniable spark still lingers beneath the surface. Their playful dynamic adds warmth and humor to Bridget’s journey, reminding her of who she is as she cautiously steps toward the possibility of love once again.
Hugh Grant is delighted to reprise his role as the suave and rakish Daniel Cleaver in the fourth installment of Bridget Jones’s story and says, “Cleaver is fun to play, one of the few things I’ve discovered over the years is that if you’re not having fun doing the part, then you probably shouldn’t be doing it. He’s a breath of fresh air. A dinosaur in the world of woke. He’s mischievous and wrong.”
Grant believes this film explores new ground for the franchise, largely because the book draws from Helen Fielding’s own life experiences. “This is perhaps the best of the four scripts I’ve read,” he says. “It’s very moving and close to Helen Fielding’s heart.” Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy emerges as a poignant story of resilience, companionship, and the extraordinary courage it takes to embrace love and second chances—all with Bridget’s signature humor, vulnerability, and irresistible charm.
