Everything Everywhere All at Once stars Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan reunite for Disney’s action-comedy series American Born Chinese; watch teaser trailer

After Everything Everywhere All at Once, Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan and Stephanie Hsu are all set to reunite for Disney+’s action-comedy series American Born Chinese. The cast also includes Yeo Yann Yann, Chin Han, Daniel Wu, Sydney Taylor and Poppy Liu.

As Variety notes, the series is adapted from cartoonist Gene Luen Yang’s acclaimed 2006 graphic novel, which tells the story of Jin Wang (Ben Wang), a child of Chinese immigrants who’s struggling with growing up in a predominantly white suburb. When he meets a new Taiwanese classmate, the two become fast friends, but Jin is pulled into the battles of Chinese mythological gods.

The trailer teases a new multiverse with Yeoh’s character warning that a “gate between heaven and earth is opening” with the fate of the world “hanging in balance.” After showing glimpses of Ke Huy Quan’s and Stephanie Hsu’s characters, the trailer also teases a guest star role for the pair’s Everything Everywhere All at Once co-star Stephanie Hsu.

The trailer for the series adaptation came on the same day as the 2023 Oscars, which notably sees Everything Everywhere All At Once nominated for 11 awards. Yeoh picked up the trophy for Best Actress, creating history by becoming the first Asian actress to earn the title. Ke Huy Quan also picked up his first-ever Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton helmed the episodes and serves as executive producer alongside Kelvin Yu, who is also the showrunner on the series. Other executive producers include Melvin Mar, Jake Kasdan, Erin O’Malley, Asher Goldstein and Gene Luen Yang. The series is produced by 20th Television.

American Born Chinese is set to arrive on Disney+ May 24, 2023 onwards. Watch the teaser trailer below!
