Donald Glover to star in and produce Spider-Man film based on villain Hypno-Hustler at Sony-Marvel

Donald Glover will reportedly star in and produce a film based on the Spider-Man villain the Hypno-Hustler. The project is set at Sony Pictures’ universe of Marvel characters. According to Variety, the actor-musician has been a fan-favorite to play the web-slinger ever since a 2010 article by writer Marc Bernardin who pointed out that there is no reason why Spider-Man has to be white.

As the outlet shares, the Hypno-Hustler is one of Spider-Man’s worst supervillains and has the ability to hypnotize his victims with his guitar. His real name is Antoine Desloin, lead singer of a band called the Mercy Killers who use their music to rob their audiences.

Myles Murphy is on board to write the screenplay of the untitled project. The project is currently in its earliest stages with no script or director. As the report notes, the Hypno-Hustler is the character from Sony’s Spider-Man universe to get a feature film, following 2018’s Venom, 2022’s Morbius, 2023’s Kraven the Hunter and 2024’s Madame Web.

Meanwhile, Glover previously appeared in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming as Aaron Davis, the uncle of Miles Morales. He also voiced Miles in the 2015 Disney XD series Ultimate Spider-Man. The multi-hyphenate will next appear in the Amazon series Mr. and Mrs. Smith, which he co-created and executive produces.
