South Korean pop star Suga, from super band BTS, celebrated his birthday by making a generous donation of 100 million won (over 61.94 lakhs) to help the earthquake victims of Turkey and Syria.
On March 9, Suga’s birthday, Save the Children NGO revealed that “BTS member Suga has donated 100 million won [approximately $75,900] for emergency relief in Turkey and Syria following severe damage from a record-breaking earthquake.” Additionally, Suga also commented on the donation saying, “So many children and families have suffered great damage from this earthquake.”
“I send my condolences to the survivors and victims,” he went on to add. “I hope that this becomes at least a bit of help to children affected by the earthquake and hope this [donation] is used to provide relief goods for children.” As the Korean tabloid Soompi shares, the said NGO will utilize Suga’s donation to fund supplies like winter blankets, mattresses, school supplies, and various other necessities in the affected regions.
The two devastating earthquakes hit Turkey and Syria on February 6 with two additional earthquakes hitting the areas later that same month. Following the tragic disaster, BTS’s agency HYBE made a donation of 500 million won (around Rs. 3.1 crores) to Save the Children, while band members J-Hope and Jimin also made contributions of 100 million each (over 61.94 lakhs) to the Korean Committee for UNICEF.
