j-hope of 21st-century pop icons BTS released his special album HOPE ON THE STREET VOL.1 today. The album is accompanied by a six-part docuseries HOPE ON THE STREET, released worldwide on March 27 on Prime Video.

The special album is centred around the theme of j-hope’s artistic roots and identity—‘street dance.’ A hopeful and poignant storyteller, j-hope participated in the overall production of all six tracks featured in the album—main track “NEURON (with Gaeko, yoonmirae),” “i wonder… (with Jung Kook of BTS),” “lock / unlock (with benny blanco, Nile Rodgers),” “i don't know (with HUH YUNJIN of LE SSERAFIM),” “on the street (solo version),” j-hope’s rendition of “on the street (with J. Cole),” and a dance remix of “what if… (dance mix with JINBO the SuperFreak)” from his first solo album Jack In the Box.

The special album boasts a wide variety of featuring artists from both his homeland and overseas—Jung Kook of BTS, world-renowned producers benny blanco and Nile Rodgers, legendary South Korean artists GAEKO of Dynamic Duo, yoonmirae, JINBO, along with HUH YUNJIN of LE SSERAFIM—bringing together multifaceted musical figures, showcasing j-hope’s ever-expanding artistic spectrum.

The main track of the album, 'NEURON' is an old-school hip-hop track featuring South Korean hip-hop veterans GAEKO of Dynamic Duo and yoonmirae. Through the track, they reflect on the sources of motivation and what exists as ‘neurons’ in their respective lives. While j-hope looks back at his artistic roots and identity, he simultaneously expresses his ambition towards a new beginning with lyrics that are thoughtful, honest, and open.

The official motion picture for 'NEURON' paints cities, streets, and human relationships as ‘neurons’. In the accompanying motion picture, a young boy observes the city streets through the lens of his camera, taking in the images of diverse people going about their individual lives and stories. The montage of scenes that create a moving collage of the city landscape and the people in it reflects the idea that like neurons, the city’s streets and people are intertwined in very complex, intricate ways.

HOPE ON THE STREET VOL.1 came to fruition in line with ‘HOPE ON THE STREET,’ a docuseries that shares the same theme of ‘street dance’. In the docuseries, j-hope explores the streets of Osaka (Japan), Paris (France), New York (USA), Seoul, and Gwangju (South Korea) and meets local dancers who inspire him along the way. The album and docuseries provide insight into multifaceted aspects of j-hope as an ever-evolving musician, dancer and creator.

As a global trendsetter, j-hope pushes boundaries while presenting a new trend of a dual album and docuseries release. Departing from the framework of delivering messages only through songs and music videos, j-hope presents a refreshing vision by expanding the realm of music to include docuseries as a part of the artist’s authentic musical expression.

In celebration of the album release, a pop-up event ‘HOPE ON THE STREET’ POP-UP will be held in Seoul from March 30 to April 5. With the pop-up space centred around the project’s main theme of ‘street dance,’ j-hope envisioned the event with the hopes of offering various ways to experience and interact with the album and the docuseries.

The first two episodes of the docuseries ‘HOPE ON THE STREET’ are available now for worldwide streaming on Prime Video with new episodes of the docuseries to be released every Thursday and Friday.
