Marvel Studios has finally dropped the teaser for Avengers: Doomsday, and it has delivered a moment fans have been waiting years for — the official return of the X-Men to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The teaser offers a chilling yet thrilling glimpse of familiar faces, with James Marsden appearing as Cyclops alongside Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen reprising their iconic roles as Professor Charles Xavier and Magneto.
The brief teaser opens on what appears to be a devastated X-Mansion, setting a sombre, apocalyptic tone. In a quiet but intense moment, Professor X and Magneto are seen in conversation, reflecting on themes of death and destiny. The calm is quickly shattered as the teaser cuts to Cyclops, who dramatically removes his visor in a burst of rage, unleashing a powerful red optic blast across the ruined landscape. The teaser closes with a clear promise to fans: “The X-Men Will Return In Avengers: Doomsday.”
While Patrick Stewart previously made a cameo as a multiversal variant of Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, this marks the first proper return of these original X-Men versions in nearly a decade. James Marsden and Ian McKellen last portrayed their characters in X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014, making their appearance in Avengers: Doomsday a major nostalgia-driven moment for longtime Marvel fans.
Although not featured in the teaser, several other X-Men cameos have already been confirmed. Alan Cumming will return as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn is set to reprise Mystique, and Channing Tatum will continue his run as Gambit after finally debuting the character in Deadpool & Wolverine. Together, these appearances point to a full-scale X-Men reunion unlike anything previously seen in the MCU.
Avengers: Doomsday is the fifth installment in the Avengers franchise following Avengers: Endgame (2019) and will serve as the 39th film in the MCU. Produced by Marvel Studios and AGBO and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, with a screenplay by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely.
Set fourteen months after the events of Thunderbolts (2025), the story brings together the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers and the original X-Men to face their biggest threat yet — Doctor Doom.
Scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, Avengers: Doomsday will hit Indian theatres in multiple languages, including Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The film will be followed by its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, slated for December 17, 2027, marking a monumental finale to Phase Six of the MCU.
