Shabana Azmi, who is married to Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar’s father and renowned writer-lyricist-poet Javed Akhtar, recently rang in her 74th birthday and along with that, she also celebrated her 50 years in Indian Cinema. Now on September 24, Zoya’s production house Tiger Baby commemorated her performance as her debut film Ankur turned 50 on Tuesday. Along with that, the social media post also featured some iconic award-winning films that are a part of the actress’ repertoire.

While the first couple of photos in the social media carousel was a tribute to Shyam Benegal’s Ankur, let us tell you that the film won three National Awards including Second Best Feature Film, Best Actor to Sadhu Meher and Best Actress to Shabana Azmi. The actress went on to win five more awards of Best Actress at the National Film Awards. The post included a glimpse of all these iconic performances for films like Arth (1982), where she played Pooja, wife of a famous filmmaker who falls in love with a beautiful yet insecure actress who works in his films, Khandhar that is based on the short story Telenapota Abhishkar by Premendra Mitra (1984), Goutom Ghose’s Paar (1984), and the 1999 hit Godmother. The post also celebrated her international performances, making a reference to her 1988 film Madame Sousatzka.

“A journey through her fearless performances and timeless artistry, since 1974,” the post read. Zoya Akhtar also commented on the post saying, “50 years more please”. Many fans of the actress too took to the post to share their best wishes and requested to continue her work in films.

Meanwhile, Shabana Azmi recently featured in the blockbuster Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani where she played the grandmother of Alia Bhatt and the love interest of Dharmendra. The film starred Ranveer Singh as the leading man along with a host of other celebrities in key roles.
