Zoya Akhtar says The Archies features ’50s fashion despite ’60s backdrop 50 : Bollywood News

Zoya Akhtar's upcoming film, The Archies, is set in the 1960s, but the fashion in the film is more reminiscent of the 1950s. In an interview with Vogue, Zoya explained that this is because global trends took time to trickle down to India in the 1960s.

"The Archies is set in the '60s, but since global trends took their time trickling down to India, the fashion you see in the film is a lot more '50s," she said. "Except for Veronica (played by Suhana Khan), who travels a lot and is up to date with the latest style."

The costume designer for The Archies, Poornamitra Singh, has dressed the cast in a variety of vintage-inspired looks. The girls in the film, played by Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, and Dot, are seen wearing upholstery-like vintage printed dresses, pinafores, and sweaters. The boys in the film, played by Agastya Nanda and others, are seen wearing prints-on-prints (checks on stripes) and folded-hemmed denim, accessorised with suspenders, sweater vests, and newsboy caps.

The fashion in The Archies is sure to be a talking point when the film is released. The film is set to release on December 7, 2023.

Having said that, it is worth mentioning here that he The Archies actors along with the makers Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, and Netflix’s Director of Original Films, Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh will be present at Bollywood Hungama's OTT India Fest, which will be held on October 19, 2023. The Archies team will be in conversation with Bollywood Hungama's Rohit Khilnani, speaking about the film, their experience of shooting it and creating a live-action comic based on a global IP, in India.
