Model-turn-actress Zeenat Aman ruled Bollywood in the 70s and 80s. She was the first choice of some of the most celebrated and renowned filmmakers at that time; from BR Chopra to Raj Kapoor. She enjoyed a massive fan following, thanks to her attractive yet elegant style. And, even when she is currently in her 70s’, the actress continues to win hearts. Thus, when she made her Instagram debut, a large number of users started following her. Apart from her photos, it’s her captions that manage to grab everyone’s attention. This time, the veteran actress has briefly spoken about ageing.

“As women we are told that our social worth lies in youth and physical beauty. If not explicitly, then in a thousand subliminal ways. This is especially true for the entertainment industry. In general, as we age, men are bequeathed gravitas but women are at best offered sympathy,” read the caption of the Heera Panna actress.

She further explained, “I was initially reluctant to stop dyeing my hair, and was strongly advised against it. Some well wishers even said it would negatively impact my work opportunities. It was only once I contemplated upon my own hesitations that I realised I really don’t care to buttress our society’s idolisation of youth.”

She went on to add, “Being young is wonderful, but so is being old. It thrills me to see more and more silver-haired women (of all ages) challenge the status quo.” Before signing off, she gave credit to her son for clicking her image featuring her “silver bob” a few weeks back in Alibaugh at a friend’s home.

Reacting to her post, many of her followers appreciated her. “Religiously reading all your captions,” wrote a user while another commented, “Her captions are life lessons.” A third user wrote, “Making it acceptable at every age. Thank you for joining the gram.”
