In a recent interview, Yo Yo Honey Singh, a trailblazer in India's rap and hip-hop scene, shared his thoughts on the current landscape of the music industry. Why Diljit Dosanjh doesn't fit the 'Superstar' category

When mentioning Diljit Dosanjh, Yo Yo Honey Singh made a clear distinction. He expressed that while AP Dhillon, Karan Aujla, and Guru Randhawa have become superstars, he wouldn't place Dosanjh in the same category. Singh explained that Diljit was "already far ahead in the game," having established himself as a legend long before these artists rose to fame. The rapper highlighted his long-standing relationship with Dosanjh, noting that they have worked together and that Diljit's status as a legend sets him apart from the others.

The rise of streaming stars and the lack of superstars

Yo Yo Honey Singh also shared his concerns about the current state of the music industry, pointing out that many artists today are becoming "streaming stars" rather than true superstars. He mentioned that while a few have managed to break through to superstar status, there are "50 boys and girls" who have only reached the level of streaming success. Singh sees this as a significant issue in the industry today.

Reflections on his own music

In addition to discussing the independent music scene, Yo Yo Honey Singh reflected on some of his own chart-topping songs in an interview with The Lallantop. He candidly admitted that the hit track ‘Blue Hai Paani Paani’ from Yaariyan 2 is the "most stupid song" he has ever written. Singh revealed that the song was completed in just two hours and lacks substance. He also expressed mixed feelings about his other popular numbers, ‘Lungi Dance’ and ‘Party All Night’, noting that he was not fully aware of what he was doing at the time, even though these songs received widespread praise.

Despite his critical self-assessment, Yo Yo Honey Singh continues to make waves in the music industry. Recently, he teamed up with Neha Kakkar and Guru Randhawa to deliver the song ‘Hauli Hauli’ from the film Khel Khel Mein.
