After making a confident debut, along with Ayushmann Khurrana, in Vicky Donor in 2012, Yami Gautam Dhar has had quite a few successes in her over a decade old career. But, according to her, one film that changed the course of her filmography was the action drama Uri: The Surgical Strike. Apart from Yami, it starred Vicky Kaushal and it was based on the surgical strike the Indian forces carried out in 2016 on Pakistan based terror camps to avenge the death of their army personnel in the Uri attacks. Directed by the debutant Aditya Dhar, the movie went onto become a blockbuster. The film saw Yami play the character of an undercover agent.

In a recent chat with NDTV, Yami opened up on why the film was career defining for her and why she likes working with new directors. She said, “I think in 2019, it started with Uri. Once I read the script, and understood that my role is on ground as well as the fact that I am not a part of the operation, I just knew that I have to do this one. Because this role is very good and it is on the lines of what I have been chasing for and I have to work with this director. And it was absolutely professional then!”

On working with new directors, Yami added, “I have actually worked with new directors all my life barring 2 directors and I enjoy it a lot because there is a new energy, there is a bit of mystery when you speak to the directors for the first time and you begin to understand the kind of director he/she is. I was very sure that I want to do this film because I wanted to be a part of this script. It was one of the best scripts I have read in my life, and the clarity that Aditya had for a film, it had to be made that exact way.”

Following Uri, Yami has been applauded for her performances in films like A Thursday, Lost, Chor Nikal Ke Bhaaga, Dasvi and the recently released OMG 2.
