Twinkle Khanna had a not-so-great career in acting in Bollywood films. It ended more or less after she got married to Akshay Kumar. But she didn’t let herself fade into oblivion, like many other actresses whose acting career had a premature end. She wrote newspaper columns and showed her worth on Twitter. It made people look up and take notice of her wonderful sense of humour. In no time, Twinkle Khanna launched her first book ‘Mrs Funnybones’ and then even unveiled a second one called ‘The Legend Of Lakshmi Prasad’.
Now Twinkle Khanna got another feather in her cap. The 42-year-old was invited as the honorary speaker at the Women’s entrepreneurship summit that was held in the headquarters of the United Nations at New York, USA. She was a part of a panel that spoke about ‘sparking confidence in girls with stars of today’. Twinkle Khanna shared the panel along with esteemed personalities like Sara Bareilles, Mikaila Ulmer, Angela Renee Simmons and Veronica Dagher. Twinkle has been vocal about women empowerment and has talked about it extensively in her writings. Probably, that’s the reason why she was extended this coveted invitation.
Incidentally, in a few days, Twinkle Khanna’s husband Akshay Kumar will be also visiting the headquarters of the United Nations. He’ll be shooting a crucial sequence from his upcoming film PadMan, which is based on a short story written by Twinkle in ‘The Legend Of Lakshmi Prasad’. The film is inspired from the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, who created a low-cost sanity napkin machine for the less-privileged women of the society. Probably, the theme of the film appealed to the United Nations and that’s how the team got the permission for filming.
