Zee TV’s popular singing reality show, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li'l Champs has won the hearts of the audiences yet again post the lockdown as the supremely talented contestants continue to deliver some phenomenal performances week after week. Having made a fantastic return on television with a panel of eminent music maestros, the episodes of the coming week are set to pay a heartfelt tribute to one such maestro who has not only been a judge or a mentor to the show’s talent across seasons but also played a pivotal role in shaping the contours of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’s journey. As contestants attempted to revive the memories of Wajid Khan through the late music composer's melodies, judges Himesh Reshammiya, Javed Ali and Alka Yagnik took an emotional trip down memory lane, recalling a bank of anecdotes from their journey of knowing Wajid Bhai!
Right after a melodious performance on the song 'Surili Akhiyon wale' by contestant Madhav Arora along with the jury member and original singer, Suzzane D'mello, the latter found herself recalling memories of the time when the song was handed to her by Wajid Khan. Narrating a few incidents of her wonderful experience while working with the cheerful Wajid, Suzanne also revealed the various moments when Wajid Khan would often prank her via late night calls to which judge Alka Yagnik couldn’t agree more.
Alka ji said, “Wajid was a prankster in the real sense who had a great sense of humour, his comments used to fill the room with laughter and he always had a smiling face. I have some fond memories with him from all the recordings that we have had together. I remember he used to often praise and credit me for more than I deserved even when I sung a simple line of a song. It's just unbelievable that a person like him is no more. Thank god I didn't see him when he was unwell, because I will always remember him with the same mischievous smile and up to pulling someone's leg. Despite it all, I can still feel his infectious energy around us here."
Recollecting a heartfelt memory with Wajid Khan, judge Himesh Reshammiya said, "Wajid and me were planning to watch a movie together for quite some time now but never got around to watching it despite the number of times we met. I think this is the only thing that is left pending forever now. I really miss Wajid!"
Adding another to the list of memories, judge Javed Ali said “I consider it sheer luck that I got the chance to sing the last song from the movie Dabang 3 'Naina Lade Ke Lade Reh Gaye' with Wajid Bhai. That was the last time I met him, and I clearly remember he kept telling us to just enjoy the song while singing. I am obliged and grateful that I have had the chance to work with Sajid and Wajid and lend my voice to the music pieces composed by them.”
