Actor Vikrant Massey is offering a deeply personal and reflective perspective on fatherhood, challenging long-held notions of masculinity and emotional restraint. The National Award-winning actor, who recently embraced fatherhood, opened up about the often-unspoken emotional realities experienced by fathers.

In an industry that often equates strength with stoicism, Massey’s candid remarks present a refreshing shift. Speaking about what he described as “dad guilt,” the actor acknowledged the emotional conflict many fathers face while balancing professional responsibilities and family life.
Opening up on the subject, Massey said, “But there is a story on the other side also. Jo dad guilt ki aap baat kar rahe ho, of course, again conceding ki hum ek chothai bhi nahi karte, but bahar jaana woh fathers ko bhi lagta hai. Toh kyunki ek conditioning hai ki aadmi jayega, bahar jaake paise kamayega, ghar chalayega, security provide karega, jo protector ka ek role play diya hua hai.”
He further added, “Mere saath bhi kitne baar aise hota tha, and I’m not defending myself, but I also want to reach out to most men who are listening to us here today, saying ki it is normal for you to miss home.”
Reflecting on the emotional pull of fatherhood, he said, “Toh bahar jaake kayin baar aisa hua hai ki hum sirf videos dekh rahe hai, har aadhe ghante mai ek video call kar rahe hai, sirf bol rahe hai uski shakal dikha do, bhale he woh swaddle ke andar aise so raha hai.”
Highlighting societal expectations, Massey noted, “Toh woh na aadmi actually own up nahi karte because unfortunately humare yahan jo conditioning hai, yahan bhi ek conditioning hai ki ‘be a man’.”
Concluding with a strong message, he stated, “It’s ok to be vulnerable, it’s ok to be wanting to go back home, it’s ok to sort of open up your phone, go through those videos and probably shed a tear.”
Through his words, Massey highlights the importance of emotional openness, redefining fatherhood as a balance of responsibility and vulnerability.
