Actor Vikrant Massey recently revisited his early days in the television industry, shedding light on the demanding work schedules and challenges that shaped his journey. Speaking on the podcast Unfiltered by Samdish, Massey offered a candid account of the intense working conditions that were once the norm for TV actors.
Opening up about the long hours on set, the actor recalled how physically exhausting the schedules could get at the peak of his television career. "Back in the day, artists would shoot for 18-20 hours. There came a time when I had to shoot for 110 hours straight without stopping", Vikrant said.
He further described how the chaotic production environment often left actors with little control over their time or workload. "They had no choice but to use me as a filler. Day shifts were melting into night shifts. There was no sense of time. Funnily, when they finally packed up, it wasn't even for me. An actor who came to the set at 10 am got upset and walked out by evening," he shared.
Despite the gruelling routine, Massey acknowledged that television offered him significant financial stability at a relatively young age. He continued, "I earned a lot on TV. I bought my first house at the age of 24. But all that regressive content on TV was happening simultaneously, and I felt like coming out of the world and trying my luck in cinema,"
While his earnings steadily increased during that phase, the demanding lifestyle began to take a toll on his mental well-being. Over time, he realised that financial growth alone was not enough to sustain him creatively or emotionally. This realisation became clearer after he had fulfilled his responsibilities towards his family and managed his financial commitments, prompting him to reassess his priorities and career direction.
Vikrant Massey eventually transitioned to films, where he built a reputation for nuanced performances across a variety of genres. His journey from television to cinema continues to be seen as a significant shift, reflecting both personal ambition and a desire for more meaningful storytelling.
His recent remarks offer a glimpse into the realities of the television industry during that period, while also highlighting the personal evolution that led him to pursue a different creative path.
