Making a film on a massive scale is not enough in the process of delivering a hit. Rather it is teamwork as it involves distribution and exhibition as well. Recently, Manoj Desai, a renowned film exhibitor, candidly spoke about Hindi films turning into a debacle at the box office with Bollywood Hungama. Interestingly, he also shared his piece of mind on hit machine Akshay Kumar giving three back-to-back flops on the big screen.

For the unversed, the last three releases of Khiladi Kumar, which are Raksha Bandhan, Samrat Prithviraj, and Bachchan Paandey, failed to attract foot falls in theatres. While talking to us, Manoj Desai addressed the same and asserted, "Content galat, subject galat”. Recalling Akshay’s visit to Gaiety before Bachchan Paandey’s release, he added, “Picture banai, kya banai? Kya kar rahe hai?”

The director of Gaiety Galaxy and Maratha Mandir Cinema further talked about the Aanand L Rai directorial as he added, “Aapney (Akshay Kumar) Raksha Bandhan banai usmai public bilkul satisfied aapkey content se nahi thi. Ussi tarah Laal Singh Chaddha ke content se bhi public bilku satisfied nahi thi.”

The veteran film exhibitor went on to add, “Koi bhi artist ko politics nahi karna chahiye”. Here, he gave refrences to Aamir Khan’s intolerance remark. Though he did not mention any specific comment of Kumar that might have hurt public sentiments, he added that it contributed to the failure of Raksha Bandhan.

Desai discussed how the protest against Brahmastra actors Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt outside Mahakaleshwar temple in UP can affect the performance of the film. He said, “Ye kitni gandi publicity ho rahi hai inki. Vo jo, khas kar ke religious public hai, woh to yahi bolegi ke Mahakal mein enter nahi karne diya Ujjain mein, picture nahi dekhenge”. He concluded by saying that the audience makes an artist a star.
