The makers of Tumbbad 2 have officially announced the commencement of the film’s shoot, marking a significant development for one of the most anticipated sequels in recent years. Along with the start of production, the team unveiled a motion poster that offers an early glimpse into the film’s tone, while retaining the mystique associated with the original.
The first installment, Tumbbad, over time built a strong reputation among audiences for its distinct storytelling and atmospheric world-building. Following its re-release in 2024, the film saw renewed interest and wider appreciation, further strengthening its position as a notable entry in the folklore fantasy genre. This resurgence also contributed to heightened expectations around its sequel.
With Tumbbad 2 now moving into the production phase, actor-producer Sohum Shah, who played a key role in shaping the original film, returns to spearhead the project under his banner Sohum Shah Films. The shoot reportedly began with a traditional mahurat ceremony, signalling the formal start of filming.
Accompanying the announcement, the makers released a motion poster that leans into the film’s mythological and ominous undertones. Featuring the idol of Poorti Ki Devi, the visual retains continuity with the world established in the first film. A line featured in the motion poster, “प्रलय आयेगा,” stands out, suggesting an impending catastrophe and hinting at a potentially darker narrative direction.

While the makers have not disclosed specific plot details, the motion poster appears to reinforce the franchise’s core themes of greed, mythology, and consequence. The imagery and tone indicate that the sequel will continue to explore the eerie and layered storytelling that contributed to the original film’s reception.
The film is being directed by Adesh Prasad, marking a new creative collaboration within the franchise. Production is backed by Sohum Shah Films in association with Pen Studios, led by Jayantilal Gada. The distribution responsibilities have been taken up by Pen Marudhar.
With filming now underway and initial promotional material released, Tumbbad 2 has entered its next phase, with audiences awaiting further updates on its cast, storyline, and release timeline.
