The first half of 2017 has ended on a sad note, what with Tubelight going dark much earlier than expected. While industry has faced a downfall of at least 100 crore due to non-performance of the Salman Khan starrer, one now awaits a biggie that would bring audience back in theatres.
Munna Michael is expected to be one such film.
For starters, the Tiger Shroff starrer is the first ‘masala’ movie in the second half of 2017. It has been a while since one saw a hard-core commercial entertainer hitting the screens. Especially amongst youth, the only film to register a strong presence was Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt‘s Badrinath Ki Dulhania and that even went on to go past the 100 crore mark. However other than one has been waiting to catch a Bollywood biggie that actually manages to penetrate A, B as well as C centres.
Now Munna Michael is slated to be one such film and that’s because of the fact that it picks up the 70s and the 80s formula of packing in just about everything. Be it the dance, music, action, romance, drama – just about every ingredient seems to have been put together in right proportion to ensure that Munna Michael doesn’t have any dull moment.
Moreover, as has been a known fact, director Sabbir Khan does know a thing or two about making commercially viable cinema. His debut outing Kambakkth Ishq may not have covered a major distance but on its release it was the biggest opener ever for Akshay Kumar and eventually turned out to be a decent grosser. Post that he paired up with Tiger Shroff twice, first for Heropanti and then Baaghi. Former was the first ever instance of a debutant scoring a Rs. 50 crore success. Latter turned out to be even bigger and took one of the best opening for two film hero. It emerged as a success pan-India, a rarity indeed.
Now that Sabbir is coming back with Tiger yet again, the ‘masala’ element seems to have gone to the next level, what with the combination of dance and action turning out to be lethal indeed. Add to that a unique flavour of Nawazuddin Siddiqui and you know that this bromance is set to be the USP of the film.
In terms of the pitching and placement, Munna Michael has the stage set for itself. The film is set for a double digit opening at the least and anything more than that would well be an added bonus. How much bigger would it go from there would be known in a couple of weeks from now.
