Actor Hemant Birje, known for his role as Tarzan in the film Adventures of Tarzan, recently revealed the insecurities actors had about his looks in the 1980s. He lost several projects as actors like Govinda and Dharmendra refused to work with him. However, Mithun Chakraborty stood by him and treated him like a younger brother, starring alongside him in 20 films.

In an interview with Bollywood Thikana, Birje shared that after the success of Adventures of Tarzan, Birje signed 107 films but faced requests to tone down his physique due to actors' reservations. He recalled an incident where he was removed from a film, Zordaar, after the producer initially signed him but succumbed to an actor's refusal to work with him. Such incidents occurred multiple times in Birje's career.

Speaking of Mithun Chakraborty’s support, Birje asserted, “I did 20 films with him. He is a very nice, good-hearted man. He is very nice. Even Naseer bhai (Naseeruddin Shah) and Shah Rukh Khan are very nice.” He added, “Whatever I would do, he would say, ‘I am your elder brother, you won’t tell me?”

Talking about his experience with Govinda and Dharmendra, Hemant said, “We did a film called Kaun Kare Kurbanie which was directed by Arjun Hingorani. When I reached the set on the first day, he (Dharmendra) looked at me and called Arjun. He told him, ‘ye keda hero le aaya, iski height bhi hai, body bhi hai, ye dikhta bhi acha hai, main iske saath dialogue nahi bolunga (Who have you got? He has a good height and body, he looks good. I won’t say dialogues with him).”

He then explained that Arjun managed to convince Dharmendra by sharing his own journey of being discovered and made into a hero by a filmmaker who picked him up from a railway station. However, Govinda started showing “tantrums” and refused to work with Arjun. This led to disruptions on set and multiple instances where the shooting had to be stopped.
