Anupam Kher launched the new teaser of his directorial venture, Tanvi The Great, at a multiplex in Mumbai. The earlier teaser was presented first; it simply showed the back shots of the protagonist. At the event, the second teaser was unveiled and it also informed viewers that the name of the actress playing Tanvi is Shubhangi. Kajol was the chief guest, and she welcomed Shubhangi to the media.
The teaser of Tanvi The Great gave an indication that the protagonist is probably a special child and gave a déjà vu of Priyanka Chopra’s character in Barfi (2012). Anupam Kher was asked about this aspect. He said, “With all my love for Priyanka, Ranbir Kapoor and Anurag Basu da, I have not seen Barfi. I don’t know why I have not seen it. So, I won’t know. I have only seen clips of that film.”
He then asked his team, “Bata du what is the source? Or should I save it for the trailer launch?”
The team of Tanvi The Great asked him to refrain. Hence, Anupam Kher just hinted, “The film is based on the conversation I had with somebody who is special. That’s the inspiration. This is what I can tell you at this stage. I did my research. I have never done research for any acting project. I wanted to make an authentic film as the theme is such. That’s why we composed the music a year before the shoot as I knew the film like the back of my hand. I knew the situation beforehand.”
Coming back to Barfi, Anupam added, “Maybe, I’ll see that film now. Just because I have not seen that film is not an insult to them in any way. I am a great admirer of their work.”
He also said newcomers face difficulties nowadays, “At that time, we could make mistakes. Now everyone with a smartphone is a journalist. That’s why, one has to be careful as anything can deviate from the (film). We have spent four years of my life on this venture. We have spent an unbelievable amount of money. We just want to talk about Tanvi.”
Anupam Kher continued, “A good film is not sufficient. We need to get the audience into the theatre. Then, the film will do the talking. Hence, we are a little cautious.”
He raised laughs as he said, “I used to tell Shubhangi, ‘Dhyaan se khade rehna’. If you scratch your thigh, some camera might zoom in and make it viral with the headline, ‘Dekho actor taang khuja rahi hai’!”
He ended his answer by saying, “I feel bad for actors these days. They are not as freedom oriented as we were for so many years. We were able to make mistakes. That’s what makes us humans. Today, people are petrified of being themselves.”
