Tanushree Dutta has come out in support of singer Chinmayi who recently slammed Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan for congratulating the controversial lyricist Vairamuthu for winning the Jnanpith award. Vairamuthu has been accused by Chinmayi and multiple other women for sexual misconduct.
As the pioneer of the MeToo movement in Hindi cinema, what do you think of MeToo accused Vairamuthu winning the Jnanpith award?
This is a big issue with Indian patriarchy. It is insensitive and tone deaf to the need of the hour and it treats women as second class citizens whose harassment complaints often get dismissed in the most dramatic fashion, such as this. Multiple women complained about this accused person, so the least everyone could do was to be sensitive and compassionate to their complaints and not support and honour such a horrible person publicly.

What example is being set for the next generation of young men? Big stars don’t need to support predators. They can just stay out of it instead of actively trying to rehabilitate a repeat offender. What logic in this kind of support?
Is there a lesson in this for us?
Basic human decency and genuine compassion cannot be taught in temples and not even God can force it on anyone. It is either in your soul or it isn't. This I have come to realise through my own battles after MeToo movement.
Chinmayi Sripaada has waged a constant battle against MeToo accused
My heart breaks for Chinmayi Sripaada. Her battle has been relentless in an overtly patriarchal Industry. I’ve also realised that no matter the stature, Industry men don’t see women in the Industry as actual real human beings perhaps. Deep inside there is that same old weird twisted mindset about female artists that justifies their odd behaviors and actions such as these. It’s between them and God now… and that’s how I would make peace with that situation.
