The Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone starrer Tamasha (2015) underperformed at the box office but has achieved a cult following over the years. A fan meet up event, hosted by Laksh Maheshwari, was held in Mumbai and it was attended by Imtiaz Ali, who opened up on a lot of fascinating and emotional trivia about the film that uplifted and moved the attendees in equal measures.
At the very beginning, Laksh asked Imtiaz about the amusing lines in the film like ‘Ghagre Mein Dhoom Dhaam’ and ‘Yeh Bikini Nahin Tikni’ and whether the filmmaker came up with them? Imtiaz smiled and asked, “Aapko lagta hai mera itna level hai?”
He then said, “Let me share a secret. I made it easy for myself. I told the unit ‘This is the scene. I need 4 wacky lines’. Within half an hour, they came up with 16 lines. The term ‘Ghagre Mein Dhoom Dhaam’ was suggested by this boy who travels with Ranbir. His name is Indar.”
Imtiaz Ali then stated, “As for ‘Yeh Bikini Nahin Tikni’, can anyone guess who suggested it?” Many names were thrown by the enthusiastic audience. Someone loudly guessed that it could be Piyush Mishra’s contribution. Imtiaz clarified, “No, it was not given by Piyush Mishra.”
Laksh and many others wondered if Deepika Padukone herself came up with the line. Imtiaz replied, “It’s not Deepika, but you’re close enough.”
This is when many speculated if Deepika’s hubby, Ranveer Singh, known for such humour, came up with the idea. Imtiaz laughed and said, “No, it’s not Ranveer Singh either.”
Finally, he said, “This is Ranbir Kapoor’s line! He told me that there was a time when he wanted to be a director; he still has that dream. He was making a short film with some friends. Someone had written a script and he had suggested the title for that film. And that title was ‘Yeh Bikini Nahin Tikni’ (laughs)!”
