Based on the book, Sultan of Delhi: Ascension by Arnab Ray, the series has everything from a power struggle to a heart-warming friendship to the charm of the 60s and a lot more. Disney+ Hostar’s upcoming power-packed series Sultan Of Delhi, directed by Milan Luthria, focuses on bringing back the charm of old India and the makers have been keen on creating a visual spectacle on-screen. So, even the lead character Tahir Raj Bhasin is the quintessential hero from the 60s era - a muscular, young man with a sense of rhythm and style that will grab the audience's eyeballs.
A source close to the show, opened up about Tahir Raj Bhasin playing Arjun Bhatia saying, “He effortlessly slips into the role of the young, handsome and passionate Arjun. From action sequences, to driving vintage cars, he will be seen acing it all. With a perfect moustache, perfectly combed hair and solid jackets and turtle-necks, he is here to sweep you off your feet.” Further talking about his character in the series, Tahir Raj Bhasin added, “One of the most exciting things about working with Milan Luthria is seeing how much detail he puts into planning, the style and the looks.”
He continued, “I remember we spent weeks just getting the hair style right for Arjun Bhatia. Celebrity hair stylist Hakim Aalim was called in and after a few trials and hair-cuts we hit upon a perfect look . The costume designers Jia and Malika did endless rounds of costume trials to get jeans with the right vintage cut and the right vintage jackets. Arjun’s outfits across the series were basic solid colors like black, white and shades of brown which allowed me to blend in perfectly with the retro era of the 60’s. For inspiration James Dean and Robert Redford were major international influences. Closer to home Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmender ji were iconic benchmarks of style from the 60’s and 70’s. The role allowed me to sport many vintage items like classic watches, shoes and more, something I really enjoyed!”
Produced by Reliance Entertainment and co-directed as well as co-written by Suparn Verma along with Milan Luthria, the show marks the latter’s OTT directorial debut. The series stars Anjum Sharma, veteran actor Vinay Pathak alongside Nishant Dahiya along with Tahir Raj Bhasin and the ladies in this 60s world include Anupriya Goenka, Mouni Roy, Harleen Sethi and Mehreen Pirzada, making for a perfect ensemble cast. Sultan of Delhi is set to stream on October 13, 2023 onwards, exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar.
