Taapsee Pannu has just signed Judwaa 2 opposite Varun Dhawan and that is rightly being touted as a big step forward for the Pink actress. As a matter of fact this is also being seen as a game changer of sorts for the Punjabi ‘kudi’, considering the fact that her last two biggies were Pink and Baby, which – in industry parlance – equates to serious cinema. Add Ghazi and Naam Shabana, her next two releases, to the list and you know that she is playing a different game when compared to her contemporaries. This is what makes Judwaa 2 interesting.
“However, while to many this may seem like a game changing attempt in order to be accepted in light hearted roles too, the fact is that she actually started her career with one such film,” comments an observer, “That film was Chashme Baddoor and guess what, it was directed by David Dhawan too.”
The romcom remake affair (with Ali Zafar, Siddharth and Divyendu Sharma in the lead roles) was actually a Bollywood launch pad for Taapsee way back in 2013 and though the film was successful, Taapsee didn’t quite create a storm in Hindi films until Baby happened.
“David Dhawan was quite impressed though with her comic timing and knew that he had to rope in Taapsee again,” our source adds, “He made only one film in the interim period, Main Tera Hero, and roped in Ileana D’Cruz and Nargis Fakhri. However, when casting began for Chashme Baddoor, he remembered Taapsee. Varun, who knew her since the Chashme Baddoor days, was glad to find her company too.”
For producer Sajid Nadiadwala, while Jacqueline Fernandez was a straight forward choice as one of the leading ladies of Judwaa 2, bringing in Taapsee into Nadiadwala Grandson fold was a step taken in the right direction.
“That is something which Taapsee would cherish since Sajid churns out multiple films at regular intervals. On an average, he makes around three films a year, most of which are family entertainers. Given her comic timing, ‘desi’ looks and persona as well as versatility, Taapsee would be really looking forward to forge an association though Judwaa 2,” the source continues.
Though there was a gap of couple of years between Chashme Baddoor and Baby, Taapsee now has her hands full for 2017 as she would be seen in Judwaa 2, Naam Shabana, Ghazi, Tadka, Makhna and Running Shaadi.com. This is not to count a South film or two that she may add on to her repertoire.
