The year 2022 was an eventful one for Sushmita Sen. She suffered a heart attack and she also made news when ex-IPL (Indian Premier League) commissioner, Lalit Modi, revealed that he might be seeing her. It led to several memes and sadly, trolling as well. Sushmita addressed this issue while speaking with Mayank Shekhar of Mid-Day.

Sushmita Sen clarified at the very start that she never put any post on Lalit Modi. She also added, “I just posted for how silence must not be misconstrued with weakness. I wanted people to know that I was laughing. And got done with it.”

As for the criticism, Sushmita said, “You can’t be 47, in the public eye for 30 years, and be afraid of the public. You have a relationship with them. They can get strained sometimes, as with all relationships. But that’s okay.”

She further said, “I was looking at memes calling me gold-digger, but monetizing the same content, online. Also, let’s get the facts straight. I don’t even like gold. I like diamonds!”

At another point in the interview, Sushmita Sen broke the silence about her boyfriend, Rajat Tara. There were murmurs that she broke up with him after she won the Miss Universe title in 1994. Sushmita cleared the air that all was well with her and Rajat. She even revealed, “I was the best man at his wedding in Belgrade. I was so fortunate to have him as my first boyfriend. You don’t dump a guy like that. You could outgrow.”

Later, Sushmita Sen admitted that dating takes away too much energy. She then talked about adopting Renee, 24 and Alisah, 18 and the legal battles she had gone through since the law didn’t allow ‘single, fertile women’ to opt for adoption. Years later, she again knocked on the doors of the court as a woman is not allowed to adopt a girl child twice. Her victories helped millions of women to fulfil their dreams of becoming mothers.
