In a recent interview, Sumona Chakravarti, known for her role as Kapil Sharma's wife on the popular television show The Kapil Sharma Show, spoke candidly about an upsetting incident involving Kapil Sharma's joke about her appearance. The incident shed light on the show's controversial reputation and sparked a debate about its alleged misogyny.

During a conversation with Habit Coach, Sumona Chakravarti revealed that she felt deeply hurt when Kapil Sharma resorted to a joke about her mouth and lips to cover up for his lies. She asserted, “I remember Archana sat with me and said ‘Why are you upset?’ I said ‘They’ve made fun of my mouth and my lips and everything, and then I didn’t forget the lines. He forgot and he said something off-script. I’m not a stand-up comedian; I can’t just come up with funny jokes like that. I mean, if I crack a joke, nobody will understand it.”

Fortunately, Archana Puran Singh, a permanent guest on the show, offered Sumona comfort during this challenging time. She recalled, “If you can laugh at yourself, you will never feel humiliated. Secondly, about the lip or the mouth part, you have something that women I know pay money to get.”

Sumona further addressed the criticism that the show has faced regarding its jokes at her expense, labelling it as misogynistic. People have questioned her involvement in a program that seemingly perpetuates derogatory humour towards women. In response, Sumona explained that the show follows a scripted format, and the jokes should not be taken literally. She emphasized that she has come to terms with the situation, recognizing that she is a decent-looking girl with admirable qualities.
