Sonam Bajwa recalls dancing to ‘Chikni Chameli’ for audition of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Happy New Year; calls it “special” : Bollywood News

Popular Punjabi actress Sonam Bajwa recently revealed an interesting anecdote from her past. She recalled auditioning for the lead role in the Bollywood film, Happy New Year which was later bagged by Deepika Padukone. Bajwa revealed that she had auditioned for the role, but unfortunately, it did not work out for her.

It all happened during her interview with Mashable India. Bajwa asserted, “I didn’t have a car at that time. My mother was here for a few days, and it was raining cats and dogs. They gave a scene for the audition. They gave me that scene ‘Easy lagta hai Mohini ka dance’, and for the dance, they asked me to perform on ‘Chikni Chameli’. I got an outfit ready for ‘Chikni Chameli’ and the clothes I was wearing, I was supposed to do my scene in those clothes.”

The actress further added, “I was feeling so bad that my mother. With those wet clothes, she patiently waited for me to give my audition. That audition that day will always be so special for me. The only time my mom has ever accompanied me for an audition was for this one.”

Sonam continued and stated that she didn't watch Happy New Year when it was released. However, when she found out that one of Deepika's dialogues from the film had become popular, it reminded her of her audition for the movie, where she had also found the dialogue to be impressive. She mentioned that while performing that scene during the audition, she knew it was fun and cute.

For the unversed, Happy New Year, helmed by Farah Khan, was released in 2014. Besides Shah Rukh and Deepika, the ensemble cast of the heist-comedy featured Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, and Boman Irani.
