The Lakme Fashion Week, which is being held in conjunction with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), started earlier this week and has been continuing strong ever since. A number of celebs have been spotted walking the runway for top designers. Iconic couturiers Shyamal & Bhumika presented their SS23 collection, 'Blooms of Paradise' - a celebration of their globe-trotting muse. It was a line of intense embroidery that created a poetic blend of craft and design on the ramp. The event took place on 16th October at the Jio World Convention Centre, India’s largest & foremost venue for marquee exhibitions, conventions, and social events and located in the heart of Mumbai’s business district, Bandra Kurla Complex. It was a line of rare hand-crafted embroideries, weaved with fantasy and reverence for the rich culture and heritage of India that created a poetic blend of craft and design on the ramp.

Age-old techniques have always been favoured by the designer duo, which they have transferred onto engaging silhouettes in a great cocktail of colours. Inspirations for the creative pair this season was a long list that started with the beauty of nature, which moved swiftly to Indian history, memorable traditions and ancient architecture.
Their inspirations then encompassed the grandeur and splendour of royal courts, museums as well as private collectors and finally ended with antique markets. It was a presentation ladened with large doses of fantasy and an aura of celebration which offered buyers a beautiful fashion story during the happy, cheerful, festivities.
Embellishments were selected with utmost care, as handcrafted embroidery and antique finish metallic threads appeared amongst pearls, beads and multi-hued resham. Techniques like resham aari, silk-zardozi, metal thread peeta, knotting and sequinning were merged with beadwork, silk thread and crystals.Fabrics that dazzled on the ramp were sustainable, handwoven raw silk, matka silk, sheer silk organza, tulle along with lavish hand dyed velvet.
There was a colourful medley of colours into which the designers dipped their brushes. The palette started with English rose pink, muted ivory, deep powder blue and moved to emerald, dusty mint, orchid, pearl, cannoli-cream, olive to finally end with sage, sky, lunar grey and midnight blue.
Womenswear was a celebration of ensembles as new age shararas, draped skirts with jackets, shift kurtas, capes over jumpsuits and lehengas with jackets brought unconventional combos to the forefront. Silhouettes pointed to draped, flared, panelled lehengas, corsets, flouncy voluminous sleeves, off-shoulder accents, empire lines, dhoti pants, constructed saris and some trailing dupattas.
Menswear too was flamboyant and stylish with heavily embroidered cropped kurtas with circular hemlines, along with jackets, double-breasted bundies and draped styles.
Yami Gautam brought the grand show to a sophisticated end, when she glided down the ramp in a pastel lehenga with an organza base heavily decorated with delicate floral French patterns, panels, and embroidery; she brought the magnificent event to a refined conclusion. The lehenga's skirt displayed a gradation of flowers that changed from light pinks and yellows to a deep purple near the end. Yami's matching sleeveless corset blouse had a slight sweetheart neckline and exquisite trims all around the edges. It was also covered in floral surface design. The lehenga outfit was accessorised with emerald earrings and a tulle dupatta with sparkling scalloped edges over the shoulders. With this outfit, Yami dispensed with all other jewellery, demonstrating that festive attire doesn't always require accessorising. In terms of appearance, the actor chose a dewy finish and soft curls.
Shyamal and Bhumika’s creations this season were all about colour, silhouettes and a mind-blowing variety of crafts that will delight fashion followers during the festivities. Shyamal and Bhumika added, "From fittings to the show and the shot of adrenaline that comes with every passing day, it was a wonderful feeling to finally showcase our new collection at the Lakmé, Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI platform. Had truly missed the excitement of doing a runway show last year”
