Bollywood actress and entrepreneur Shilpa Shetty has inaugurated a new outlet of her restaurant chain Bastian in Goa by performing a traditional puja on Friday, even as she remains embroiled in an ongoing Rs. 60 crores fraud case.
In a post on her Instagram Stories, Shetty shared glimpses of the ceremony. Dressed in a white printed salwar-kameez, she was seen performing a “yagna” as part of the ritual.
The new Goa venue expands the footprint of her hospitality brand. Earlier, there had been speculation that the iconic Bandra restaurant Bastian in Mumbai was shutting down. However, Shetty subsequently clarified that instead of closing, the Bandra outlet will be re-imagined as a South Indian restaurant named Ammakai, and the Bastian brand will relocate to Juhu under the name Bastian Beach Club.
In a video message, she reassured her patrons, “No, I am not shutting down Bastian, I promise. I have received numerous calls, but everything said, I can definitely feel the love for Bastain, but don’t turn this love into something toxic. I have literally come to say that Batian is going nowhere. We have always introduced new food, continuing with that passion, we are so excited to announce not one but two new places.”
She also shared, “Something new and brilliant again. Going back to my roots with a place called Ammakai - pure South India Mangalorean cuisine in our Bandra Bastian and Bastian Beach club in Juhu. So I can't wait for all of you to try something new and experience new flavours of Bastian hospitality. Bandra Bastian was the root to our tree called Bastian Hospitality, like a tree blooms new fruits, our favourite Bandra restaurant is giving way to a new one called AMMAKAI, South Indian Mangalorean cuisine, taking me back to my roots. Your Favourite Bastian is going to Juhu, with the name of Bastian Beach Club. So BASTIAN is staying…going nowhere!!!!!”
Meanwhile, the legal battle against Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra continues. A businessman, Deepak Kothari, has alleged that he was influenced into investing Rs. 60 crores in Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd a company linked to the actor-couple and that the funds were diverted for personal use. Although the company is now closed, the couple served as its directors, and the case is ongoing in the Bombay High Court.
Amid the legal challenge, the new restaurant launch in Goa serves as a bold business move by Shetty, underlining her intent to expand her hospitality brand even while facing regulatory scrutiny.
