Celebrities and the public alike are divided on the tactic's effectiveness and ethical implications. Actress Sherlyn Chopra has also added her voice to the conversation.

On Friday, Pandey's social media team posted a statement claiming her death due to cervical cancer. This shocked fans and the industry, prompting condolences from many. However, a dramatic turn unfolded on Saturday when Pandey herself released a video clarifying she was alive and well.

In the video, Pandey acknowledged the shock caused and used the opportunity to raise awareness about cervical cancer and its prevention through early detection and vaccination. She emphasized the preventable nature of the disease and urged viewers to seek information and vaccinations.

While some praised Pandey for raising awareness, others, including actress Sherlyn Chopra, strongly condemned the method. Sherlyn, who initially expressed shock at Pandey's death, later tweeted, "HEIGHT OF SHAMELESSNESS & INSENSITIVITY!!!" criticizing the fabricated death announcement as insensitive and disrespectful.

In addition, filmmaker Pooja Bhatt had also condemned Pooja's death hoax and wrote, "I never delete tweets but did so in the case where I expressed my shock at news of Poonam Pandey’s demise due to cervical cancer. Why? Turns out the news was engineered by a digital/PR team. Absolute disgrace & disservice to those battling the same-her included." Meanwhile, Ram Gopal Varma extended his support to the model and actress as he tweeted, "the extreme method u employed to draw attention to this issue might attract some criticism , but no one can question ur INTENT nor what u ACHIEVED with this HOAX .. Discussion on cervical cancer is TRENDING all across now ."
