Veteran actress Sharmila Tagor remembered Lata Mangeshkar donating money for the Indian cricket team following their maiden World Cup victory in 1983 in an interview with Aaj Tak Television. Speaking to Aaj Tak TV, she said, “She was very fond of cricket. In 1983, when we won the World Cup. She raised funds with her brother. They raised Rs 20 lakh for the Indian Cricket team and they got Rs 1 lakh each. At that time, BCCI didn't have that much money. Even for Goa, with Sudhir Phadke saab, they did a concert for Goa Liberation and she contributed to that also."

She further added, "There were many aspects of Lata ji. She was a wonderful photographer. Very fond of wildlife. She used to take beautiful pictures of animals and I hope the family can think of having an exhibition of the photographs. We would like to see that also.”

Lata Mangeshkar, according to Sharmila, will live forever. "As long as the music is there, Lata ji will always be immortal. Log kabhi unko nahi bhulenge. All her songs are being played on television, like Rahe Na Rahe Hum and all those songs which were being played. She is immortal and the legend will live on. And we have been so fortunate that she has sung for us and we knew her. So many songs that she has sung for me and they were all huge hits, from Aradhana to Talaash to Amar Prem to Chupke Chupke, Anupama," she said.

On January 8, Lata Mangeshkar was hospitalized at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital after testing positive for Covid-19. For the past few weeks, she had been receiving care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Her health was improving, but in the last 24 hours, it has deteriorated again. On February 6, she passed away due to multiple organ failure.
