Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor has seen many ups and downs in his career. There was a period of time when he went into depression when three of his films flopped back to back while he was shooting for Sooraj Barjatya’s Vivah. The actor said that Shikhar, Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi! and Deewane Huye Paagal flopped in a month’s time and that made him doubt himself.Shahid Kapoor says he had asked Sooraj Barjatya if he wanted to replace him in Vivah after he had three flops: “I was going through depression”
In a conversation with Pinkvilla, he shared, “I was going through depression”. He recalled how he was shooting for Vivah and he asked Sooraj Barjatya if he wanted to replace him in the movie. They were shooting for 8-10 days and he was sitting in his vanity van in the wedding outfit as they were beginning to shoot the wedding sequence. “I told him ‘Do you want to change me?’ So he said ‘What happened?’ I said in one month, three flops… nobody has seen (that). Obviously, people don’t like me because this is with all the other actors who are superstars and they are doing really well. I was the reason why they didn’t want to see this film and he just kept looking at me,” he shared.
Shahid wondered what Barjatya must have thought and said, “If my hero’s state of mind is in this shape, how I will make a good film?” The actor added, “He looked straight in my eyes and he said ‘Do you know what to do between action and cut? Do you know how to do your job as an actor? I said I do. He said ‘that’s it, just focus on that, everything else will come and go’. Since then that’s what I do, I focus on my job, success and failure come and go.”
Though he could not relate to the world Barjatya had created, he depended on the conviction of the director to transport into the Rajshri Productions’ world. “The fact that it was something that I hadn’t experienced, the fact that it was out of my universe, what I had been exposed to, is what fascinated me and drew me to that subject,” he said.
Starring alongside Amrita Rao, the film was about two people falling in love after an arranged marriage set-up.
On the work front, Shahid Kapoor has three films lined up in his pipeline. He will next be seen in a sci-fi romance with Kriti Sanon, Aditya Nimbalkar’s Bull, and a remake of the 1964 film Woh Kaun Thi?.
