Shah Rukh Khan has captivated audiences worldwide with his charismatic on-screen persona. Yet, beyond the glitz and glamour, the actor has consistently demonstrated a humility that has endeared him to millions. In a recent candid conversation at the Locarno Film Festival 2024, where he was honoured with the prestigious Pardo Alla Carriera Award, the superstar offered a glimpse into his personal life. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a grounded perspective, particularly for his children, Aryan, Suhana, and AbRam.
“Beyond my drop-dead gorgeous looks (grins) and stardom, we are a normal family,” Khan confessed. Despite the opulent lifestyle associated with his stardom, he is determined to instill in his children a deep appreciation for their privileges. He credits his wife, Gauri Khan, for maintaining a sense of balance and simplicity within their household. “I know it looks alien and different from the outside. But I want my kids to be humble about their privileges. I want them to understand that they have to come out of the shadow both positive and negative of being a star’s son. The wife is sweet, she keeps a balance, there’s some wisdom there. So, we lead a very simple life. I’m just someone who found a way to spread happiness, so they support me,” he added.
Despite a career spanning nearly three decades, he remains enthusiastic about his work. “I know I am limited. I don’t have the scope more talented actors have but I don’t want to give up. My family asks me how I don’t get tired. Acting keeps me happy, not because I’m the focus, but because I might bring joy to someone I might never meet. I hate wearing makeup (for work), but I do it,” he shared, revealing the genuine joy he derives from the art form.
Interestingly, the superstar admitted to a certain detachment from the concept of fame itself. While he acknowledges the love and admiration of his fans, he views stardom as a separate entity, distinct from his personal and professional life. “It has nothing to do with what I do and what they do,” he explained. “So I’ve never thought of stardom as anything important.”
On the work front, Shah Rukh Khan will next star in Sujoy Ghosh’s thriller King. Suhana Khan and Abhishek Bachchan are also a part of it.
