They are one of the most iconic on screen couple of Bollywood. Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol continue to enjoy the fame of being the only Jodi whose film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge has broken records of all sorts and continues to run in theatres even after two decades. But it is not just their on screen chemistry that creates this magic. The two also share a great off screen camaraderie and have been good friends for long.

When Shah Rukh Khan called Kajol an idiot

Talking about their behind the camera rapport, a recent confession of Kajol for the Harper Bazaar magazine’s May edition definitely took us by a surprise. Knowing Kajol and her uninhibited nature, her recent interview for the glossy was unabashed. Unlike many others, Kajol has always retained that she became an actress by chance.

Let us remind you that the actress hails from a film family and her mother Tanuja was a diva during her hay days. Amidst her dreams of owning a 9 to 5 job, Kajol revealed that she became an actress when Rahul Rawaiil offered her a film at the age of 16 [Bekhudi - 1992] adding that acting came easily to her and she never took it seriously.

Here’s where she made yet another revelation about her conversation with Shah Rukh Khan whilst they were shooting for Baazigar (1993). The film in question was her second film and had her paired up with the actor for the first time. During her interview, Kajol reminisced about how Shah Rukh Khan went on to call her an idiot on the sets of the film and advised her to learn acting professionally.

In her own words, Kajol said, “He said, ‘You have to learn the skill of acting.’ And I was like it’s OK, what’s your problem? I’ll keep doing it till it works. And he replied, ‘You’ll burn-out one day if you carry on like this’”. Going further in her career Kajol, however realized that he wasn’t wrong and after Udhaar Ki Zindagi, Kajol decided to take up acting classes. “That was when my learning started, because until then I didn’t believe in what I was doing. That’s when I started developing the skill, the technical aspect of acting.”

Following that path, Kajol became a name to reckon with in the 90s as she went on win six Filmfare Awards and was also conferred with the Padma Shri in 2011.
