Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar remain one of Bollywood’s most beloved couples. On December 9, they celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary. To mark the occasion, Shabana posted a tender photograph on Instagram showing them looking lovingly into each other’s eyes.
In her post she wrote, “To be able to look at each other with such tenderness after 41 years of marriage says it all ..Happy Anniversary Jadu.” The post struck a chord it dominated social media, as fans flooded the comments section with heartfelt wishes.

Celebrities too joined in sending greetings were Abhay Deol, Soni Razdan, Vidya Balan, Dia Mirza, Anil Kapoor, Urmila Matondkar and Meiyang Chang. Filmmaker Farah Khan Kunder who happens to share the same anniversary date added a playful note, “Happy happy anniversary my anniversary sharers.”
For context, Javed Akhtar had earlier been married to veteran screenwriter Honey Irani, with whom he has two children Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar. After their separation, Javed and Shabana tied the knot in 1984.
Besides her celebrated film career having worked with acclaimed filmmakers such as Shyam Benegal, Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen and Aparna Sen Shabana has long been known for her social activism, especially for women’s rights and education.
