Satish Shah calls Shah Rukh Khan “smart”; recalls how latter convinced him to play Professor Rasai in Main Hoon Na : Bollywood News

Satish Shah is a versatile Indian actor who has made a significant contribution to the Indian film and television industry. His talent and versatility have earned him a legion of fans. Besides Indravadhan from Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai, it’s his character of Professor Rasai from Main Hoon Na, which is still remembered by many. Speaking of the same recently, Satish Shah shared a story explaining how Shah Rukh Khan convinced him to play that character and called the latter “a smart guy.”

It all happened during his conversation with Bollywood Bubble. He asserted, “You will not believe it, I had to practise a lot. It was not trick photography. I was given a choice... Shah Rukh is a very smart guy... He told me, ‘we have two roles, one is of the principal, and the second one is of Professor Rasai.’ When I asked about the latter, he said, ‘every time he speaks, he spits, he salivates so much that you know it comes out in the form of espresso.”

Recalling his first reaction, Shah stated that he asked him “what kind of role is this”, and opted to do the principal’s character, which was eventually essayed by Boman Irani. He explained, “Shah Rukh is a smart fellow. He told me, ‘You have played many such characters, and anyone can do these roles. I think you should do this role (of Professor Rasai) because we can't think of anybody else doing it'. Both Shah Rukh and Farah flattered me a lot. That's how I ended up doing that role, but it was not easy.”

During the interview, the experienced actor revealed that he drank water before filming his spitting scenes. He also shared that sometimes he would spit so much that the water would come out in the form of a spray.

Released in 2004, Main Hoon Na was an action-drama film. Besides SRK, it also featured Sushmita Sen, and Amrita Rao, along with Suniel Shetty playing the antagonist.
