It was a celebration of Rajasthan when Punit Balana showcased his “Utsav” collection at Lakmé Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI. Timeless designs appeared in shades of surkhlaal, gulaabi, gulaal and pickle green for a multi-seasonal “Utsav”.

Punit highlighted the textures of his collection that were inspired by the Kalbelia community of Rajasthan in several imaginative ways. Sprinkled with crafts, like Marodi, resham, Gotta, mirror and coin work along with prints, the ensembles moved to block prints and Bandhani for an added traditional touch. The line of creations moved seamlessly through women’s and men’s wear that will be ideal options for the forthcoming festivities. The women’s wear offered eye-catching lehengas with peplum blouses that will create an interesting addition to the festive wardrobes. For men, the kurtas were embellished with heavy embroidery to match the celebratory mood of the inspiration.
“For me, what’s most important while designing a new collection are my roots, my surroundings. I never have to look beyond Jaipur and Rajasthan for inspiration. There’s so much about our history that remains untapped, and I really hope that one collection after another, I can show people how contemporary our culture can truly be,” said Punit Balana, adding, “Happiness, song and dance are a huge part of the Kalbelia community, and they make sure that their culture, their folklore is passed onto generations. They take immense pride in it. I want the Punit Balana Women and Men to also feel the same kind of pride when they own and wear an outfit from “Utsav”, something that will hold meaning for decades to come.”
Ending the show, was lovely Sara Ali Khan who made a grand entrance in a gorgeous red lehenga/choli duo sprinkled with butties and draped in a heavily, embroidered dupatta.
Sara Ali Khan said, “This was my first time walking at Lakmé Fashion Week X FDCI and it has been an amazing experience. What Punit designed for me was traditional yet modern, young but ethnic and very me. It indeed was truly one memorable experience, and I had a great time being Punit's showstopper.”
Sara caught everyone's attention when she arrived wearing a crimson and gold embroidered lehenga. As Sara Ali Khan walked the runway for the designer's collection, she was breathtakingly stunning. The ensemble was made up of a flared lehenga skirt with exquisite thread work and motifs and a short-sleeved blouse with a plunging V-neckline and beautiful gold embroidery. The dramatic band of latkans gave the outfit a tough edge. Her beautifully embroidered dupatta completed the monochromatic ensemble. The diva added a maang tikka, a couple bangles, and a statement ring as accessories. She kept her makeup glossy with kohl-filled eyes, a lot of mascara, a little blush, and a hint of pink lip colour.
The “Utsav” collection by Punit Balana, was a grand, colourful offering that was a dazzling display of sartorial splendour when men and women select the timeless ensembles for the various festivities.
