Santana Roach appreciates Zoya Akhtar for the apt portrayal of the Anglo-Indian community in The Archies; says, “The depiction vividly resonates with the experiences I had during my childhood”

Santana Roach essayed the character of Midge Klump and shared screen space with Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, and Dot.

Santana Roach, a dancer pursuing advertising, made her film debut in Zoya Akhtar's latest directorial Archies, now streaming on Netflix. In the film, Santana essays the character of Midge Klump, where has sported distinctive short bob hair and is seen as one of the classmates of Veronica, Betty, and Ethel.

Now that the film has released, the dancer turned actor reflected on her journey of shooting for the film and cherished her moments with co-stars Suhana, Khushi, and Dot on set. Santana shared, "My admiration and love for Suhana and Khushi are beyond words! These two incredibly talented and hardworking girls are extremely loving. I've shared numerous close and emotional moments with both of them. In fact, all of us, including Dot, continuously inspired and uplifted each other on set, and I've always treasured the positive energy that fills our time together as a group of girls."

Elaborating on her experience with director Zoya Akhtar, Santana continued, "Every nerve-wracking day would instantly become better as soon as she would greet us in the morning. Honestly, there were times when I wished our shoot day wouldn't end. Watching her work is a delight; she has a mind that works in a direction you aspire to have, and she is truly fabulous."

Being an Anglo-Indian herself, Santana addressed the authenticity of the film's portrayal of the community, and added, "Zoya has accurately captured the essence with precision, from the music and dishes to the slang, dancing, and frequent parties. The depiction, including elements like plum pudding, vividly resonates with the experiences I had at parties during my childhood. Watching the film is like a nostalgic journey for my family and me, filled with familiar references that transport us through the years. We can enjoy the movie repeatedly just to relive those moments."

When asked about the decision to join the project, Santana revealed that this was a dream come true moment for her. "It’s Zoya Akhtar, I would’ve not thought twice even if I wanted to. Working with her has always been a childhood dream of mine, and as soon as I found out she was directing it, I knew I genuinely wanted this opportunity. I am incredibly grateful that Zoya entrusted me with this chance," she said.

Speaking of her upcoming commitments, Santana is shooting for a web show on an OTT platform but the details are kept under wraps.
