Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much-anticipated digital debut, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, is already making waves even before its release. The show is touted to be one of the most significant productions in the Indian OTT landscape.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar will have 6 to 7 songs in the album. The songs are going to be a visual grandeur to relish on the screen. This is the first time an OTT show will be having songs of such a grand scale. SLB who always gives his personal attention to the music of his films, spent a year working on the music of Heeramandi, a show close to him.

The show is not only expected to be made on an extensive budget, but it is also expected to feature a host of celebrities as it is said to be a social drama set in the 1940s and revolves around the courtesan culture. In an earlier interview with Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos, SLB had called the show as a tribute to films based on courtesans like Pakeezah, Mughal-e-Azam, etc.

He also appreciated several filmmakers who managed to effortlessly work on such magnum opuses like Raj Kapoor, Bimal Roy, and Guru Dutt. “They told beautiful women stories. They understood that she is the creator of man, therefore she needs to be given a place in literature, cinema and art. They always told stories of women, they were not necessarily telling stories of men. So, if there is a Bajirao, there is also Mastani for me. If there was no Padmavati, who would hold the fort, fight and go into fire, I wouldn’t have made that film,” he had said. Heeramandi will be premiering on Netflix.

Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar boasts an ensemble cast featuring stellar talents such as Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal, and Sanjeeda Sheikh. The show is all set to release this year on Netflix worldwide.
