Salman Khan urges for censorship on OTT platforms; says, “clean content” always works better

en Bollywood News Salman Khan urges for censorship on OTT platforms; says, “clean content” always works better

Salman Khan has advocated for censorship on OTT platforms, stating that India must put a stop to vulgarity, nudity, and abuse in digital content.

In recent years, streaming platforms have become increasingly popular among people, who prefer to watch their favourite movies and TV shows online. However, the recent trend of OTT censorship has sparked a debate among various stakeholders. While many remained tight-lipped when asked to share their thoughts, a few voiced their opinion without fearing judgement. Recently, actor Salman Khan has also come forward to comment.

It all happened during the press conference of Filmfare 2023. Salman used the occasion to support the idea of censorship on OTT platforms, stating that "clean content" is always more effective. He also pointed out that actors who refuse to perform intimate scenes are often overlooked. He also rejected the notion that OTT is a more fashionable version of TV and shared that he has been in the entertainment industry since 1989 and has never had to perform these kinds of acts.

He asserted, “I really think there should be censorship on the medium. All these.. vulgarity, nudity, gaali galoch (swearing) should stop.” He continued and elaborated, “15-16 year-olds can now watch this content on their phone. Would you like it if your young daughter watches it giving an excuse that she is using the device to study? I just think the content should be checked on OTT. The cleaner the content, it will be better and will also have a larger viewership.”

He explained his take and said, “You have done it all – lovemaking and kissing in scenes. And when you enter your building, your watchman is watching the same. So, I just don’t think that’s right for security reasons. Also, we don’t need to do that. We live in India. It was way too much before, finally, it was curbed. Now, people have started working on a lot of good and decent content.”

The Tere Naam actor also added that some people who are ‘talented’ manage to do it, however actors, who are not comfortable with it, are left behind in the OTT race. He concluded by saying that if films and TV can have censorship, why not OTT?

Coming to the professional front, the 57-year-old actor is currently busy with his Eid release, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan. The film is slated to release on April 21, 2023.
