In her latest Instagram post, Saira Banu recalled being jealous of Vyjayanthimala when Dilip Kumar gave a romantic pose with the latter.

On Tuesday, Saira Banu, the legendary actress and the widow of the iconic Dilip Kumar, shared a nostalgic and heartwarming memory on her social media platform. In a touching note, she transported her followers back to the year 1958, when she was just a young girl with a profound admiration for her favourite film star, Vyjayanthimala.

In her recollection, Saira Banu humorously acknowledged how childhood and teenage memories can often be strange and amusing. She confessed that this particular memory from her youth was not just funny but also somewhat embarrassing, considering her present-day bond with Vyjayanthimala.

Back in 1958, Saira Banu was enchanted by the performances of the dashing Dilip Kumar, especially after witnessing his exceptional act in Aan, a film specially screened in London. She was an ardent fan, and her room's wall was adorned with pictures of her heartthrobs. Among these posters were the likes of Elvis Presley, the King of Rock, the towering Rock Hudson, and the enigmatic James Dean.

The Banu household in London had a letterbox that held special significance for young Saira and her brother, Sultan. They eagerly anticipated letters from their mother and friends in India, yearning for a piece of home. Saira's mother, aware of her daughter's passion for Indian cinema, would send them 'Filmfare Magazine' intermittently, providing them with entertainment and a taste of their homeland.

In one particular issue of the magazine, Saira Banu stumbled upon a captivating photograph from the film Madhumati. The image portrayed Dilip Kumar in a romantic pose, resting his face on Vyjayanthimala's forehead. At that time, such displays of affection were considered bold in Indian cinema.

However, Saira's reaction was quite unexpected. Consumed by childish jealousy over Sahib's (Dilip Kumar's) proximity to Vyjayanthimala's face, she took a pair of scissors and began snipping away at that portion of the photograph. Looking back, Saira finds this memory utterly hilarious and can't help but burst into laughter at her own antics.

Little did she know that fate had something extraordinary in store for her. Over the years, Saira Banu not only had the chance to meet and admire Vyjayanthimala but also developed a deep and cherished association with her, akin to that of an elder sister. Today, they regularly converse and share their lives, creating a beautiful bond that transcends the boundaries of fandom.

As Saira Banu concluded her heartfelt note, she hinted at many more captivating memories with Vyjayanthimala, promising to share them with her audience in due time. Her recollection serves as a touching reminder of how life can bring unexpected connections and relationships that evolve from childhood admiration into cherished family bonds.
