On the occasion of Hindi Diwas, veteran actress Saira Banu took to Instagram to talk about her first experiences with Hindi. The actress spoke about her motivation and drive to learn one of our Official languages, and how proud she was to learn it.
Banu took to her Instagram Story on Thursday and wrote in her caption, “सालों पहले जब मैं एक मशहूर अभिनेत्री बनने का सपना ले कर भारत आई थी, तो यहाँ की भाषाओं में इतनी निपुण नहीं थी। (Years ago, when I came to India with dreams of becoming a famous actress, I was not proficient in the languages here.)“
She further added, “हिंदी सिनेमा" में अभिनय करने के लिए यह बहुत ज़रूरी था कि मैं हिंदी भाषा को अच्छे से बोल और समझ पाऊँ, खास कर के 60 के दशक में, जब दो कलाकारों के बीच के संवाद बहुत ही लंबे, शायराना, और कठिन शब्दों को मिला कर बना करते थे। पर मेरी माँ "परी चेहरा नसीम बानू" जी ने मेरे यहाँ आने के बाद यह ज़िम्मा उठाया कि मैं यह अनमोल भाषा सीख पाऊँ और मैंने उतनी ही लगन के साथ इसे सीखा, और इस बात का मुझे बहुत गर्व है। (For acting in Hindi cinema, it was essential for me to speak and understand the Hindi language well, especially during the 1960s when dialogues between two actors consisted of long, poetic, and challenging words. After I arrived here, my mother took it upon herself to ensure I learned this invaluable language, and I am immensely proud of this achievement)“
The actress concluded by saying, “आप सभी को हिंदी दिवस की हार्दिक शुभकामनाएँ। (Heartfelt greetings to all of you on Hindi Diwas.)”
Saira Banu and Dilip Kumar tied the knot on October 11, 1966, and the couple were together for over five decades. Dilip Kumar passed away on July 7, 2021 due to old age ailments and prolonged illness.
