Rupali Ganguly, known for her lead role in and as Anupama is also known for another popular character which ruled the television screens during the early 2000s. Fans of television, would be aware that she essayed the character of Monisha Sarabhai from Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, a renowned sitcom set against the backdrop of a wealthy Sarabhai family residing in South Mumbai which is a satirical take on class divides and its eccentricities.

In a recent conversation with Aditya Bhat on Kiska Brand Bajega, Rupali Ganguly recalled her early days in television where she spoke about her journey and her professional commitments. During this candid conversation, the actress spilled secrets behind the success of her characters and revealed how she prepares for her roles. She mentioned how during those days there was no research, no workshop, and no prep.

When asked about her preparation for the iconic role of Monisha in ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’ she shared that there was absolutely no preparation for that particular role either, explaining “Nothing. Monisha is me.” She further revealed that it was very easy for her to get into the character of Monisha and added “I was being myself. So I wasn't acting. That is how I am. That is, I think Monisha was better than Rupali.”

For the unversed, her character of Monisha Sarabhai is a fun-loving, careless, naïve, kind-natured but stingy middle-class girl whose antics often annoy her polished and sophisticated mother-in-law Maya Sarabhai. While Maya’s second son and brother-in-law Rosesh Sarabhai is a quintessential Mamma’s boy, Monisha’s father-in-law Indravadan is a fun-loving man who loves her like a daughter. Her husband Sahil Sarabhai, the sanest one in the family is often trying to balance all the characters in a bid to maintain silence and peace in their homes.

Also starring Ratna Pathak Shah, Satish Shah, Sumeet Raghavan, and Rajesh Kumar, in key roles, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai remains to be one of the most beloved sitcoms on television.
