Sharing how she came on board the project, Roop revealed that she was working on theatre when the opportunity came her way. She said, “I was doing theatre and preparing for an upcoming play when I got a call to audition for an important character in a Prakash Jha’s production series. The name itself was enough for me to say yes. Since I had been looking to break into web space, it seemed like a perfect web debut. Considering the show was to be directed by Prakash Jha Sir himself and had a stellar cast such as Nana Patekar, Sanjay Kapoor, Neeraj Kabi. Also since I was to be paired opposite Zeeshan Ayyub, who himself is a such an amazing Actor it was just perfect.”

In the series, Roop plays Madhuri, the wife of an IPS officer portrayed by Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub. Talking about the character, she said, “I am playing Madhuri, a simple yet intelligent girl from Bihar who is the wife to Zeeshan Ayyub’s character - an IPS officer. She is well educated and strong, knowing very well that her husband is in a tough job and she understands him very well, a big support to him.”

The actress also shared details about her preparation process, which began with a meeting with Prakash Jha before the shoot commenced. “Prakash Sir is a man of few, yet strong and impactful words. That’s where the foundation of the preparation began. Also my theatre training came in handy. I did research on what kind of life do the wives of IPS officers have, their struggles & where do they derive their strength from. As you go in depth of the script, the character sketch & characterization begins on its own. I even had a different playlist for Madhuri. It was a beautiful process for me as I was playing a very different character from what I had portrayed earlier in my previous projects.”

Roop also had the opportunity to share important scenes with Nana Patekar and described the experience as memorable. “Working with Nana Sir was fantastic! Especially because I shot my first ever scene for Sankalp with him only. It was a rather intense scene and I so wanted to feel nervous but hillariously I was not ! Nana sir was so giving and helpful during the scene, even when it was my close up going on, he delivered the lines exactly the same way so I would get the same energy in my performance. The scene went really well & both him & prakash sir were happy. It was a delight to get insights from them both throughout.”

Addressing stereotypes often associated with web content, Roop noted that she did not face such concerns while working on the show. “I’m fortunate to have got an opportunity where I didn’t have to think about these things at all. I believe in doing what my heart tells me to go for & what suits my personality & personal values. If something is making an actor uncomfortable, it’s going to show on screen as well. Every Actor has certain boundaries and we work around them.”

Reflecting on her time away from the spotlight, the actress added that she has remained creatively active. “I think I was never away from limelight as such, I just believe in being known for the work that I do. This show was much awaited and meanwhile I did some short films and also a feature film which is again slated to release this year. Apart from work, I worked on myself too, my singing, took up Yoga training , travelled and did multiple treks. Experiencing life first hand is also an Artist’s part of job I believe. I love filling the well of my life with a variety of experiences which enrich me as an Actor & as a human being.”

The upcoming socio-political drama Sankalp is scheduled to premiere on Amazon MX Player from March 11, marking Nana Patekar’s debut in the web series space.
