A state funeral was organized on Sunday evening to conduct her last rites of Lata Mangeshkar who passed away on Sunday morning. She was 92 and passed away on February 6 morning due to multi-organ failure. She was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in January following a COVID-19 positive test.
The state funeral saw the presence of PM Narendra Modi, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Lata Mangeshkar's family members Asha Bhosle, Usha Mangeshkar, grandchildren, Shraddha Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan, Sachin Tendulkar, Vidya Balan, Siddharth Roy Kapur among others. Politicians Sharad Pawar and Raj Thackeray were also in attendance.
Along with them, actors Aamir Khan and Ranbir Kapoor were also seen in attendance. Both of them went to the podium to touch Lata Mangeshkar's feet, put a garland around her, and pray for her soul.
Lata Mangeshkar was considered one of the iconic stars in the music industry of all time. She recorded songs in over a thousand Hindi films and crooned in over thirty-six Indian languages and foreign languages. She was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1989. In 2001, she was conferred with the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour.
Lata Mangeshkar is the recipient of three National Film Awards, several Filmfare Awards, and more. In 1974, she became the first Indian to perform at the Royal Albert Hall, London.
