The much-awaited film Laal Singh Chaddha is all set to release on August 11. It is an official remake of the 1994 classic Forrest Gump. And from the trailer of the Hindi version, it is evident that the protagonist in both the films are child like and have the same kind of trajectory. However, in Forrest Gump, the character of Forrest’s lover, Jenny (Robin Wright), is shown to have had a dark past. She was sexually abused as a child by her father and when she grows up, she becomes a part of a hippie and drug and sex culture in the 60s and 70s USA.

Kareena Kapoor Khan has been romantically paired opposite Aamir Khan in Laal Singh Chaddha. Many wondered if Kareena’s character of Rupa would also be as bold as that of Jenny in the original, especially when Aamir has often said that the film is meant for a larger audience.

Aamir Khan was asked about it at a recent media interaction and he said, “Kareena’s character is the one that been altered the most amongst the characters in the original. We don’t have that cultural reference of hippies, drugs etc. in India. Hence, we have altered her part appropriately as to what is relevant in our society. I don’t want to delve further as I would want audiences to see it.”

Aamir Khan shared an interesting anecdote about how Kareena Kapoor Khan was finalized for Laal Singh Chaddha, “Honestly, we were making a mistake first in our casting! As an actor, I had to look 18 as well as 45. Toh usme de-aging lagega and we had planned to use VFX. For the role of the heroine, we didn’t want to double the de-aging process. Hence, we wanted someone of the age of 25 so that she could look 18 as well as 40, the latter through make up. We started our search. The casting director showed the video of an actress. Uss actress mein humko galti se Kareena dikh gayi! Suddenly, me and Advait Chandan (director) had a Eureka moment. We didn’t think of casting Kareena initially as she is not 25. I instantly decided that she should come on board. As for the age, I said, ‘Mera de-aging ho raha hai, toh uska bhi de-aging ho jaayega’. Kareena read the script and she bagged the part. She’s a very good actor. I am so glad that she is our Rupa.”

This is the third time that Aamir Khan is working with her after 3 Idiots (2009) and Talaash (2012). When asked how she has evolved as an actress according to him, Aamir Khan stated, “I think she’s getting better and better at what she does. She just gets into the skin of the character. If you ask me, Laal Singh Chaddha is one of her best performances. Talaash also had a fantastic performance by her and the same goes for 3 Idiots. But personally, I would rate Laal Singh Chaddha as one of her best. It is a very demanding performance and a tricky one.
